We are using Spire.XLS 8.8.5.6040.

When a cell contains a TAB character
"123<TAB>abc",

the Excel file displays correctly, but after converting to PDF using Spire.XLS, only "123" is rendered.

Could you please confirm:

1. Is TAB treated as a control character by the PDF rendering engine?
2. Is this a known limitation or bug?
3. Is there any official documentation, specification, release note, or bug report describing this behavior?

Thank you.

I would like to provide the code used for the Excel-to-PDF conversion for your reference.

The following code is used with Spire.XLS 8.8.5.6040:

Code: Select all
string pdfFilePath = excelFilePath.Replace(".xlsx", ".pdf");
Workbook workBook = null;

// Load Excel file
workBook = new Workbook();
workBook.LoadFromFile(excelFilePath);

// Convert Excel to PDF
workBook.SaveToFile(pdfFilePath, Spire.Xls.FileFormat.PDF);

Hello Lisa,
Thank you for your response and for taking the time to simulate the issue.
My test environment is as follows:
.NET Framework: 4.7.2
Spire.Office: 3.8.6
Spire.XLS: 8.8.5.6040

I will also provide the actual Excel file in which the issue occurs, so that you can compare it with your test document and investigate the issue further.
I would appreciate it if you could get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support.

Hello,

Thank you very much for providing the document and screenshots. Using your document, when using the older version (Spire.Office: 3.8.6, Spire.XLS: 8.8.5.6040), the resulting PDF did indeed have some loss. However, when I used the current latest version( Spire.Office Platinum(Hotfix) Version:11.9.0), the result was fine. It should be that our latest version includes optimization for this issue, you can test it on your side using our latest version.
Website: https://www.e-iceblue.com/Download/download-office-for-net-now.html
Nuget: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Spire.Office/11.9.0

At the same time, could you provide your purchase information such as order number or license registration email for our reference, then we will confirm the last version you are entitled to use under your current license scope. You can also send it to us by email([email protected]).

Sincerely,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for testing with our document and confirming the results.

Upgrading directly from Spire.Office 3.8.6 to 11.9.0 is a big jump for our system, and we would like to keep the change as small as possible while staying within our current license scope. Could you please help us check the following?

Is there an older version of Spire.Office (earlier than 11.9.0) that also fixes this issue, i.e. the text after the TAB character being lost when converting Excel to PDF? If possible, please let us know the earliest version that includes the fix.
Could you share the bug ID or the release note related to this fix, so we can include it in our report?

Our environment is still .NET Framework 4.7.2. We will send our license information to [email protected] separately so you can confirm which version we are entitled to use.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

dongoclong

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.
Sorry, I haven't received your email yet. In addition, there is no specific fixing bug ID for this issue. We have been continuously improving and optimizing our product, this part should have been optimized during internal product upgrades.

At the same time, I used more versions to test this issue and found that starting from (Spire.Office: 5.1.0, Spire.XLS: 10.1.1.6040 ), this issue was resolved. This version was released on 2020/1/14, you can check whether it is within the expiration date of your license. If it exceeds, you need to upgrade to a new license to use the newer fixed version. Of course, after upgrading, you can also use the latest (Spire.Office:11.9.0). The latest version only has the following adjustments to the license application method, it is more stable and supports more new features.
Old version:
Code: Select all
Spire.License.LicenseProvider.SetLicenseKey("license key");

Latest version:
Code: Select all
Spire.Xls.License.LicenseProvider.SetLicenseKey("license key");
Spire.Doc.License.LicenseProvider.SetLicenseKey("license key");
Spire.Pdf.License.LicenseProvider.SetLicenseKey("license key");
Spire.Presentation.License.LicenseProvider.SetLicenseKey("license key");
