I have several YAML files containing structured information that I need to analyze in Excel. The files include nested sections and multiple records, so manually opening each file and arranging the information in spreadsheet columns is taking quite a lot of time. I am looking for a way to automate the conversion while keeping the data properly organized. I came across SysTools YAML Converter Tool while searching for solutions. Has anyone used it to convert YAML to Excel? I would like to know how well it handles nested YAML data and whether the converted Excel file is easy to work with.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out.
Regarding your request to convert YAML files to Excel documents, you can achieve this using our Spire.XLS for Python product.
Here is the reference code for your implementation:
- Code: Select all
import yaml
from spire.xls import *
from spire.xls.common import *
def yaml_to_excel(yaml_path, excel_path):
with open(yaml_path, 'r', encoding='utf-8') as f:
data = yaml.safe_load(f)
workbook = Workbook()
sheet = workbook.Worksheets[0]
if isinstance(data, list):
for row_idx, record in enumerate(data, start=1):
for col_idx, (key, value) in enumerate(record.items(), start=1):
if row_idx == 1:
sheet.Range[row_idx, col_idx].Text = str(key)
cell = sheet.Range[row_idx + 1, col_idx]
if isinstance(value, (int, float)):
cell.NumberValue = value
elif isinstance(value, bool):
cell.BooleanValue = value
else:
cell.Text = str(value) if value is not None else ""
else:
for row_idx, (key, value) in enumerate(data.items(), start=1):
sheet.Range[row_idx, 1].Text = str(key)
cell = sheet.Range[row_idx, 2]
if isinstance(value, (int, float)):
cell.NumberValue = value
elif isinstance(value, bool):
cell.BooleanValue = value
else:
cell.Text = str(value) if value is not None else ""
workbook.SaveToFile(excel_path, FileFormat.Version2013)
workbook.Dispose()
yaml_to_excel("data.yaml", "output.xlsx")
If the test results do not meet your requirements, please provide your YAML file and the expected output, and we will customize a demo for you.
Sincerely,
Amy
