do i need font convert pdf?

i recently finshed mt project and i send my project to other one.

he said when he convert pdf, every words were garbled.
(i didn't use special font. just normal font)

he solved problem by installing MS.office.
so my qustion is do i need font to convert pdf? if i need, what kind?
